About Cocohodo

Cocohodo library, located in the Sensok area of Phnom Penh is library a library opened by a Korean missionary for the library neighbor's children and those residing in narrow alleyway areas near a clothing factory.

 

Before starting our first session, we visited the alleyways

Week 1

Theme: Who?

Following the themes of first week sessions  in our past initiatives, we focused in introductory activities that taught self-introductory phrases like "my name is.." "what's your name?" with DIY name placards.

This initiative, we decided to construct our weekly themes following the 4Ws. (Who, What, Where, When)

  • Dream job illustrations

  • Name placards

  • Initial bracelets

  • Name Tag

Week 2

Theme: What? 

A student's favorite activity! We learnt that from our initiative at Dail, that body tracing+ labeling body parts on a big poster was many's favorite. We also did a game of twisters and body part bingo.

Week 3

Theme: Where?

In week 3, we learned typical  locations such as school, hospital, and gas station. We also incorporated basic action verbs like walk, run and dance to construct basic sentences.

Week 4

Theme: When?

"When do you go to school?" In week 4, we taught ways to phrase the communication of time. We also incorporated prepositions with clay animals and origami houses.

Week 5

Theme: Active Recall!

With a newly incorporated sticker chart with organized a little sticker market, where students could use the stickers them collected in the past 4 weeks to purchase a goodie.

For this, we organized a mini carnival with games that engages students with active recall sessions. For example, a ping pong cup game where students had to call out the name of the location after seeing the picture attached to the cup they scored in.
